January 2018

The South East Institutes of Technology in Carlow and Waterford plan to develop cross-institutional projects and initiatives which will build regional capacity, strong relationships and alliances as the next step in the development of a Technological University for the South East.  As part of this ambition, the Institutes jointly launched a new cross-institutional collaborative project fund January 12th 2018.

Three project areas have been identified and project proposals have been invited.  The areas include: teaching and learning which will look at areas such as access and participation, innovation in curriculum development and the learner experience; research, development and innovation which will focus on building regional research capacity and excellence and enhancing research collaboration between academic researchers, industry and community groups to support innovation and enterprise development; regional engagement and impact to enhance regional industry, business, civic and community engagement as well as internationalisation, diversity, inclusion and gender equality.

Speaking following the announcement of the project call, which took place at both the Carlow and Waterford campuses with a live stream to Wexford, Dr. David Ryan, the director of the office of institute planning and research at Institute of Technology in Carlow said ‘This HEA supported project will facilitate inter-institutional and regional focused projects across the South East.  The fund will enable staff from across both Higher Education institutes to work together with other regional stakeholder groups on a shared initiative of benefit to all participants and ultimately to the South East region and the greater South East area’.

The closing date for the receipt of expressions of interest is February 16th 2018 and further information is available through [email protected].
