Workstream 8 is a dedicated workstream for students’ union affairs in the new TU. The workstream comprises three working groups (WGs) of eight members – four from ITC and four from WIT. Each WG is co-chaired by a sabbatical officer from each SU.
Key topics being looked at in this workstream include SU constitution; SU structure; voting systems; autonomy and funding; class rep system; class rep council; institute body representation; accommodation strategies; clubs and societies and promoting equality, inclusion and diversity (EDI). A TUSEISU website is also being developed.
A key priority in WS 8 is effective communication to students on the progress of the TU project and both Students' Unions are beginning to carry out collaborative projects. These include a joint end of year ball hosted by both WITSU and ITCSU, a joint 'Run to Represent' campaign promoting the importance of the TU in terms of the upcoming Students' Union elections, and a collaborative podcast/video production of both Students' Union executives as part of our amalgamated SU broadcasting network.
In addition to workstream 8, student representatives are also sitting on many working groups in other workstreams and thus making a valuable contribution to shaping many aspects of the new TU.
